Short answer: Typical installed ranges per linear foot, from HomeGuide's 2026 cost guide, are chain link $9–$30, wood $20–$50, vinyl $30–$60, aluminum $25–$75 and wrought iron $50–$85, with cedar privacy at $35–$40 (HomeGuide, 2026; HomeGuide wood fence guide, 2026). These are typical fence ranges, not quotes. They were published on whitetailfence.com in October 2026, and 2027 prices can change. Labor, slope, rock, gates and tear-out all move the final price.

These are national typical ranges, not Northwest Arkansas quotes. HomeGuide puts 150 ft of new fence at a typical $3,000–$9,000, depending on material (HomeGuide, 2026). Get written estimates: each pro sets their own price for your fence line.

For comparison, national figures: Angi's 2026 cost guide puts a new fence at $6–$50 per linear foot, with an average of $23. By material it lists wood at $10–$45, vinyl at $15–$40, chain link at $8–$40, aluminum at $17–$90 and wrought iron at $25–$55 (Angi). Those are national averages, not Northwest Arkansas prices.

Farm fencing reference: University of Missouri Extension's April 2026 pasture-fence budget works out to about $3.94/ft for woven wire with one barbed strand, $3.03/ft for five-strand barbed wire and $2.86/ft for electrified high-tensile wire. That budget assumes a landowner doing the work with a hired helper, on gently rolling ground with few rocks (MU Extension G1193). Hiring a contractor, or building on rocky Ozark ground, will cost more.

What moves the price

How long each fence lasts

Angi's figures are national averages (Angi, Angi, Angi):

NWA weather matters. Fayetteville (Drake Field) averages about 47 inches of precipitation a year, and January lows average in the mid-20s °F (NWS 1991–2020 normals, weather.gov). With that much wet weather and freeze-thaw, it pays to ask how posts will be set and to keep wood fences sealed or stained.

Permits and HOA rules (check before you buy material)

There is no single NWA fence rule. Each city sets its own, and HOAs can add stricter ones.

Bentonville: permit required. - A fence permit is required for new and replacement fences. The fee is $30, and the application needs a site plan and a photo or cut sheet of the fence style (application, fees). - Maximum height is 6 ft above grade, or 8 ft in downtown zones. Front-yard fences can be no taller than 4 ft. - Fences must sit at least 5 ft from the street or right-of-way and stay out of sight triangles. - No fences are allowed in platted drainage easements. A fence in a utility easement needs a gate at each end. - Where the fence is visible from a public right-of-way, the finished side must face out (Appendix B).

Rogers: usually no fence permit. - The city "does not currently require fence permits." A building permit is required if the fence is over 7 ft tall and/or has concrete footings. - Front-yard fences "should be limited to 4 feet," and no fence may be within 3 ft of a fire hydrant (City of Rogers FAQ). - Ask Rogers Community Development whether concrete-set posts count as "concrete footings" for your job.

Fayetteville. Fences 7 ft or under don't need a building permit, but they can't block sight lines. Overlay districts can add rules (City of Fayetteville).

Springdale. A secondary summary of the city code reports no fence permit for an ordinary residential fence, with a 3 ft limit in front yards, 6 ft in side and rear yards, and a separate pool-barrier permit (FenceRules summary). Confirm with the City of Springdale before you build.

HOAs. Covenants differ by subdivision, so read yours. One real example is Stoney Creek Place in Rogers. Its recorded covenants ban front-yard fences, cap fences at 6 ft, require the finished side out, prohibit chain link and wire fencing, and require committee approval of materials (Stoney Creek Place covenants). Bella Vista's POA covenants require written Architectural Control Committee approval before any fence goes up (Bella Vista POA). Get HOA approval in writing before you order material.

Call 811 first. Arkansas law requires homeowners to contact Arkansas 811 before digging, and that includes building a fence. Utilities have two working days to mark their lines, and a ticket is valid for 20 working days (Arkansas 811).
